What’s new

Every change to the blog

  1. Version 0.15.0 ·

    Sunset paintings across the blog

    • The home page, About, Topics and every topic page open with their own painted sunset: a neon street, a notebook at a café, a cassette player on the boardwalk.
    • A link to a page that isn’t here now lands on a painted bus stop with a way back to the blog.
    • A shared link now shows its title on a sunset painting.
    • The podcast has a new cover: an old microphone on a beach bar at sunset.
  2. Version 0.14.2 ·

    One name per person, everywhere

    • When Eik changes the made-up name he uses for someone, the days already out change with it: the title, the summary, the story, the homework, the topics and his answers to readers. One person never goes by two names.
  3. Version 0.14.1 ·

More room in the line of nearby days

    • On a computer, the line of nearby days beside each day has more room: the circles no longer crowd each other, and the line between them shows all the way down.
    • Each date and title now sits level with its circle, with a little space between them.
  4. Version 0.14.0 ·

    Ask Eik himself

    • The home page now starts with the newest day and all the days, with a topic filter. Lower down, “Didn’t find it? Ask the blog” takes your question, and “Ask anything” at the top jumps straight there.
    • The blog’s AI answers are stricter: two or three short sentences, each one something a post says plainly, each linking to its day, then a big button to read the full day. They carry a grey “✦ AI, from Eik’s posts” tag.
    • When no post says it, the blog says so instead of guessing, and you can ask Eik himself. It tidies up your question first, and you can change anything. Nothing is public until Eik answers.
    • Leave an email if you like: you get one note when Eik answers, and then the address is deleted.
    • Eik’s own answers are on the home page and on a new page, “Questions Eik answered personally”, in the menu. They show his name, the date and “Written by Eik himself”, so you can always tell them from the AI.
    • “Most asked” shows the questions readers ask most, with saved answers you get at once.
  5. Version 0.13.1 ·

Long things to try are no longer cut off while Eik writes

    • Behind the scenes: when Eik edits a day, each thing to try now shows in full and wraps onto as many lines as it needs, on his phone too.
    • Each one stays a single sentence, so a stray line break is turned into a space.
  6. Version 0.13.0 ·

The lantern lights the moment Eik heads out

    • The lantern now lights within about a minute of Eik heading out to talk to people, with the city he is in, even before his first conversation.
    • It goes dark again soon after he heads home.
    • A page you keep open catches up by itself, so there is no need to reload.
    • It still only ever says the city and the day, never the time, the street or anything about the people he talks to.
  7. Version 0.12.0 ·

    Every day has section headings

    • Every longer day now has short section headings, so you can see at a glance what each part is about and skip to it.
    • Where Eik wrote his own headings, they stay as he wrote them. Elsewhere, a few plain ones are added where the day turns to something new.
    • Below the headings, the words are still exactly Eik’s.
  8. Version 0.11.0 ·

Eik signs in with Face ID now

    • Eik now gets into the writing desk behind the blog with Face ID on his phone or Touch ID on his laptop. No more Google sign-in.
    • Nothing changes for you as a reader: there is still no sign-in anywhere on the blog, and signing up for emails needs no account.
  9. Version 0.10.0 ·

Days that are easier to read

    • Each day now reads like a proper article: real paragraphs with room to breathe, instead of one long block of text.
    • Longer days have section headings, so you can scan them and jump straight to the part you want.
    • Lists in a day show as bullet points, only where the text really is a list.
    • The words are still exactly Eik’s. Only the layout changed.
    • The audio version pauses at each heading and list item.
  10. Version 0.9.0 ·

Get each new day by email

    • Type your email address at the end of any day, or on the front page, and get one email each time a new day goes up.
    • You’ll get one email first to confirm it was you. Nothing comes until you tap the link in it.
    • Each email has the day’s title, its short version and its Richter number, with a link to read the whole day.
    • Every email has a link to stop them, and your mail app’s own Unsubscribe button works too.
    • Your address is only used for this. It is never shared, and the emails have no tracking.
  11. Version 0.8.0 ·

A sunset icon for the blog

    • The blog now has its own little sunset icon in the browser tab, in bookmarks and on a phone’s home screen.
  12. Version 0.7.0 ·

Follow the blog in a feed or a podcast app, and share a day

    • Follow every new day in any feed reader at /rss.xml. The same address works in a podcast app, and days with a recording play there.
    • Share a day in a chat and the link shows a card with its title and its Richter number.
    • Each day now says who wrote it, right under the title.
    • Search engines and AI chats like ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity can now find the blog, read each day’s short version and link back to it.
  13. Version 0.6.0 ·

    Ask the blog anything

    • A box on the front page takes any question about Eik’s days, like “How does he handle rejection?”, and answers in a few lines.
    • Every answer links to the days it comes from, and the list of days below shows just those.
    • Ask a follow-up to keep going. The last three questions stay on screen.
    • When no day answers your question, the box says so and shows the closest days instead.
    • Answers come only from what is already on the blog. Ten questions a day are free; the topics and every day stay open to read without asking.
  14. Version 0.5.0 ·

The blog opens: every day, by topic, with its Richter number

    • The front page shows the newest day first, then every earlier day on one line, with a dot that grows with how big the day felt.
    • Tap a topic to see only the days about it, or open "More topics" for the rest. Clear takes you back to every day.
    • Each day has its own page: how big the day felt, four scores in colour, the short version, the full post and a little homework for tomorrow.
    • Tick off the homework as you go. Only your own browser remembers it.
    • Every day page has a player for the audio version. Where a recording is not ready yet, it says "Audio version coming soon".
    • A Topics page shows every topic at once, the most-used biggest.
    • The About page says who is writing, in three facts, and how to read a day.
    • New here? A link at the top takes you straight to day one.
    • If the blog helps, a small Ko-fi box lets you buy Eik a coffee.
    • This page, "What’s new", lists every change to the blog.
  15. Version 0.4.0 ·

    Every post, read aloud

    • Every new post is now recorded as audio, read aloud in Eik’s voice. The player comes to the post pages soon.
    • The recording reads the title, the whole post, and then the small things to try under “Homework for tomorrow”.
    • It is recorded once and kept, so it starts playing straight away, even on a slow connection.
    • When a post is changed after it went out, the old recording is held back until a new one is made, so you never hear words that are no longer there.
  16. Version 0.3.0 ·

Posts can go out, and nobody in them can be recognised

    • Eik can now publish his daily posts.
    • Before a post goes out, every real name is swapped for a made-up one, and details that could point to someone are made vaguer.
    • Each post is also read for fairness: a line that could hurt someone he met is softened, or kept only when he decides it is fair.
    • Nothing goes out until both checks have run on the final words.
    • Every post comes with a short summary, tags, scores for the day and a few small things to try yourself.
  17. Version 0.2.0 ·

Live from Approaches on the front page

    • The front page now has a small live box: how many strangers Eik has talked to so far, and the city and day of the last one.
    • A lantern lights up while he is out talking to people right now, and goes dark again when he heads home.
    • It only ever says the city and the day, never the time or anything about the person he talked to.
    • Tap "Tracked in Approaches" to see where the numbers come from.
